About the Megayacht Industry

Let’s start with a few statistics

bullet10,000+ yachts over 24m (about 80ft.) that require professional crew.
bullet87% of the world’s yachts are registered in the Cayman Islands (Red Ensign)
bullet90% of these are owned by US nationals.
bulletThere are 18 miles of new builds underway in 25 countries (the most ever!)
bullet6,900 new crew are needed each year to man the vessels being constructed
bulletOf the top 200 yachts in the world the smallest is 53 metres (about 178 ft.)
bulletCurrent average build length is 34 metres (about 114 ft.)

There is already a shortage of qualified personnel to fill the positions available. The increased enforcement of manning level regulations plus the number of new builds add up to an even greater job pool for accredited candidates.

If you are serious about embarking on a new career in yachting here are some points to consider

bulletObviously there is a lot of travel involved.
bulletHowever, this is not a vacation.
bulletHard work and long hours are ‘par for the course’.
bulletIdentify your area of interest.  e.g. Deck, Engineer, Stewardess etc.
bulletResearch the availability of positions available on megayachts.
bulletSet a defined achievable objective.
bulletMake it a priority to learn as much as you can about the industry.
bulletPrepare a Resume/CV that will highlight your abilities/talents/and interests.
bulletTraining at all levels is essential for a successful career in the yachting industry.
