Maritime Career Training is also a trading name of the family company. We provide career training for people who wish to work in the maritime industry in Australia. The Statements of Attainment which we issue under Maritime Career Training are recognised by AMSA.

We are committed to delivering training and assessment services to the best of our ability, with strict adherence to the National Standards for vocational education when delivering courses accredited under the AQF.  Introduction

 This code contains information about Superyacht Career Training’s policies and client services.   Superyacht Career Training is committed to the application of access and equity principles, so that clients, staff, members of other organizations and the public are treated fairly and with respect at all times.

Privacy and Freedom of Information 

Superyacht Career Training is committed to respecting the privacy of individuals in relation to the collection, storage, use and disclosure of personal information.  No personal information will be disclosed without the written consent of the individual concerned.   We are also committed to providing individuals with ongoing rights to access information about themselves. 

Student Access to Information 

Students will be granted access to information about their assessments and all other documents relating to themselves or the evidence gathered to support assessments of their competencies and all other documents relating to them personally. Access will be granted with 24 hours notice in writing.

Access and Equity 

Access to Superyacht Career Training’s courses and programs are open to all and will not be limited by reason of race, gender, marital status, physical impairment or sexual preference.   Within this context the only consideration given to the eligibility of a client to enrol in a course is the likely ability of the client being able to complete the course satisfactorily.   An assessment of pre-requisite competencies may be carried out to determine client suitability.

Superyacht Career Training is committed to upholding anti-discrimination principles during training and assessment activities.  Please note that disability access may not always be available. 

Anti Discrimination Policy Statement

Superyacht Career Training is committed to providing a workplace free from discrimination. Superyacht Career Training will not discriminate against people on the grounds of who they are related to or who they associate with,  their age, having carer’s responsibilities, sexual preference, race (including colour, ethnic or religious background, descent or nationality), disability, gender (including sexual harassment or pregnancy) and transgender.

Superyacht Career Training will ensure that there is no harassment, bullying, victimization or racial vilification between students and staff and make a strong commitment to make certain that no person is subjected to the unwanted attention of others.

Occupational Health and Safety

Superyacht Career Training is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of students, staff and visitors by providing a healthy and safe workplace and eliminating conditions and incidents which could result in personal injury or ill health.  Superyacht Career Training activities conform to Queensland  State legislation.

Superyacht Career Training expects staff and students to comply with its occupational health and safety policies and procedures and to conduct themselves in a safe manner without placing themselves or others at risk.   All employees must ensure they are familiar with their obligations under OHS and take all reasonable steps within their power to meet those obligations.   OHS legislation also reinforces the duty of students to help provide a safe environment by taking reasonable care of the health and safety of others. 

Staff will:

bulletProvide a healthy and safe environment for other staff, students and visitors
bulletProvide suitable facilities and equipment for the safe and healthy conduct of activities
bulletEnsure that students receive the appropriate information, instruction and training to perform safely
bulletDeal with health and safety issued raised by students
bulletInform the Principal of all accidents that occur which may affect health and safety in the workplace
bulletReview reports of incidents and accidents to ensure appropriate measures are taken to prevent recurrence
bulletComply with Superyacht Career Training’s requirements for reporting of workplace injuries and illnesses

 In the first session of any course, the trainer will provide students with information about:-

bulletEmergency exit procedure
bulletLocation of nearest fire extinguishers
bulletLocation of first aid kit
bulletLocation of nearest toilet

Reporting of Hazards, Injuries or Illness 

If the trainer is aware of hazards which pose risks to the health and safety of the trainer or students, he/she should advise the Principal in writing as soon as possible.  If the trainer considers that there is an immediate danger to the trainer or students, the sessions should be terminated until the premises have been made safe. The trainer or other suitable person should report an injury or illness, which occurs during training or assessment in writing as soon as it is practicable after the occurrence.

Individuals 

Each staff member and individual student is responsible for ensuring that his/her own work environment is conducive to good occupational health and safety by- 

bulletComplying with occupational health and safety instructions
bulletTaking action to avoid eliminate or minimize hazards
bulletReporting hazards
bulletSeeking information or advice where necessary

 Refund Policy

If you cancel your enrolment more than 21 days before the course commencement date then you will receive a refund of 90% of the course fees paid. If you cancel your enrolment within 21 days but more than 7 days from the course commencement date then you will receive no refund but you may transfer to a later course. If the course fee increases from the time you first enrol to the time you cancel then the fee difference will be payable by you. If you cancel your enrolment 7 days or less before the course commencement date then the fees you have paid will be forfeited.
 
Superyacht Career Training reserves the right to cancel a course at any time before the course commencement date. In this event you can choose to receive a full refund or to transfer to another course at a later date.
 

Complaints and Appeals Policy 

A student  who has a complaint is advised to raise the matter initially with the course trainer/assessor, who will attempt to resolve the issue. If the student is not satisfied with the response of the trainer/assessor, the student is advised to document the issue, clearly stating the facts and submit the written document to the Superyacht Career Training Principal. On receipt of a written complaint, the Principal will appoint an independent staff member to hear the complaint/grievance.   The staff member will
 
·         Record the complaint in the Complaints file
·         Interview the complainant
·         Seek verification of the problem by interviewing all parties concerned
·         Resolve the issue in a fair manner
·         Record the outcome of the matter in the Complaints file
·         Provide the complainant with a written statement of the outcome.
 
A student who wishes to appeal against the decision made by the independent staff member is advised to state in writing the reasons for the appeal and submit the appeal to the Superyacht Career Training Principal.
 
The Principal will review the case, making sure that principles of fairness were adhered to.   The appellant will be given an opportunity to put the case in person to the Principal whose decisions will be documented and recorded.   A copy will be given to the appellant.
 

Appeal against Result

 A student has the right to appeal again a decision made by Superyacht Career Training in regard to an assessment result.   The student is advised to:- 

bulletResubmit all relevant written assessment items
bulletDocument and submit an account of any non written assessment items

 Any re-submissions will be reassessed by a different assessor within Superyacht Career Training.

The result of the reassessment will be fully documented in any case where the original assessment decision is to stand.  This outcome will be given to the student and follow up counseling provided if required. 

Welfare and Guidance 

Superyacht Career Training recognizes that students may from time to time face difficulties in their lives which impact on their capacity to complete the course in which they are enrolled. 

Wherever possible,  Superyacht Career Training, will assist students by:- 

bulletDiscussing with the student the difficulties they are facing
bulletProviding flexibility allowable within the National Standards in relation to the assessment
bulletHelping the student to locate suitable welfare and/or guidance organizations

Student Rights and Responsibilities 

Superyacht Career Training advises students to be aware of their rights and responsibilities as stated in relevant Queensland and Australian legislation, in particular the Privacy Act, the Freedom of Information Act, the principles of Access and Equity, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Anti Discrimination Act.     

Any student who feels they have been unfairly treated is encouraged to raise the matter with Superyacht Career Training staff, who are committed to resolving such matters.   Equally, students are expected to behave in a manner that is not offensive to fellow students or staff of Superyacht Career Training.  Courtesy and politeness are expected of all students.

Student Discipline 

Superyacht Career Training student discipline policy reflects the principles of fairness outlined in the Access and Equity guidelines and procedures.   Any behaviour perpetrated by a student that is barred by the legislation covering workplace behaviour will be pointed out to the student.  Initially the student will be informally counselled to refrain from displaying the behaviour.   If the behaviour continues, a formal request will be made for it to stop.  If the behaviour still continues the student may be asked to leave the course.

Rules regarding the fair conduct of assessments are strictly enforced by Superyacht Career Training staff.

If students copy the work of others they will severely jeopardize their own final results.

Enrol online - Please visit our website at www.stcw95.net and click on the ENROL button. Enter all the information requested and pay the course fee in full by credit card or select the direct deposit option. If you choose the credit card option, we will confirm your enrolment within 48 hours by email. If you choose the direct deposit option we will confirm your enrolment 48 hours after the deposited funds have been cleared through our bank account. Please note that we do not accept part payment of the course fee. If you do not have access to the internet please enrol over the telephone by calling us on (07) 5446 6410 between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday excluding Queensland and Federal Government holidays. 

RPL Policy (Only applicable to Apply First Aid) 

As an accredited provider of training and assessment services we are obliged to offer recognition of prior learning (RPL) to any student who believes he or she can substantiate a claim to being already competent in a particular unit of a course we deliver under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).  

Having gained RPL for a particular unit no further training delivery or assessment is required for that unit. This could result in a reduction in the course fees. However, it might also be the case that the cost of the RPL process is at least that of the normal course fees, depending upon how much assessor time is required in the process. 

For us to recognise your prior learning, you need to provide evidence that your competency for a particular unit within the course is current. 

Support Services 

Literacy and Numeracy – Should you have any difficulty in understanding any information we provide you in writing, please bring this to the attention of you instructor who will provide whatever immediate assistance he or she can. In the event that assistance is ineffective or not available for reasons outside our control then we will provide assistance to you in contacting a tutor in english or in mathematics. The cost of the tutor will be advised to you prior to the commencement of this support service. 

Learning Difficulties - Should you have any difficulty in comprehending any course content due to the method of delivery, please bring this to the attention of you instructor who will provide whatever immediate assistance he or she can. In the event that assistance is ineffective or not available for reasons outside our control then we will provide assistance to you in contacting a tutor in english or in mathematics. The cost of the tutor will be advised to you prior to the commencement of this support service. 

Students with Physical or Intellectual Disabilities – If you believe that you can develop the competencies needed to satisfy the issue of the qualifications in a course which we conduct but this requires special facilities or services, please raise these needs with us prior to commencement of the course so that we can plan how these needs can be met. While we undertake to always try to meet special needs it is possible that we might be unable for reasons outside our control to provide them. A cost might apply for the provision of the special services and this will be advised prior to the commencement of the training.

Course Outcomes

Accredited course outcomes include: 

On completion of one or more units of a training package, a Statement of Attainment for the units completed in partial completion of the qualification; 

On completion of a group of units which complete a skill set, a Statement of Attainment stating the name of the skill set and the individual units completed and stating that these units are in partial completion of the qualification;

On completion of all the units of a qualification, a Certificate in the qualification completed within the training package. 

Assessment Method 

Assessments of your competencies will be conducted to the standards of the Australian Qualifications Framework. 

Assessments may be in writing or oral questions and answers or by demonstration of a unit of competency or by observation of your competencies in the workplace or a combination of all these methods. 

Options for Assessment Locations 

Assessments may take place in the classroom or in the workplace or in a practical trainig and assessment environment on board a training vessel or elsewhere.

Legislative Requirements 

Superyacht Career Training will at all times abide by the laws of the State of Queensland and the laws of the Commonwealth of Australia in the conduct of our training and assessment services.
